Fishing is a very popular pass time in the Yukon as fish are both tasty and abundant. Good fishing can be had without even leaving the city. Species of fish in the Yukon include Trout, Arctic Char, Arctic Grayling and other freshwater fish. There are also several varieties of Salmon.

Due to the importance of fish as a natural resource there are several regulations that must be followed in order to ensure that fish populations are not harmed. Please pick up the Fishing Regulation Summary book, which is available at all tourism offices and many sports stores in the Yukon. It highlights the species of fish as well as some guidelines to fishing in our region. Also handy is the Angler's Guide to Stocked Lakes. This book suggests places where different species of fish are abundant and can be caught.

There are several outfitters or fishing charters that would love to take you out for a day, weekend, or week of fishing. There are beautiful fishing lodges only a short flight away from Whitehorse. This is a great way to get out fishing in luxury.
