Glaciers & Other Natural Wonders
Whitehorse's beauty can be attributed to several distinct features of the region. The first is the historic Yukon River, upon which our city is built. The Yukon flows all the way to the Bering sea and is navigable by canoe or small boat.
Slightly upstream from the city centre is the awe inspiring Miles Canyon, one of the regions most photographed sites. Float through Miles Canyon on an old-time raft or cruise your way though on the MV Schwatka.
Downtown Whitehorse is characterized by the clay escarpment that surrounds the city. This feature can be attributed to millennia of erosion. Explore the "Clay Cliffs", and the surrounding rolling hills. Note the contrast as they give way to rugged mountains which characterize the Northern Pacific Coast.
For those seeking to explore the beauty of the Yukon first hand, charter air service is available for flight-seeing. Fly south to the "Chilkoot Trail" and the icefields or west to view the magnificence of the Kluane region which is best appreciated with a flight-seeing tour. The splendor of Mount Logan, the St. Elias Icefields, and the Kaskawalsh and Lowell Glaciers, to name just a few, cannot be overstated. Tours operate daily from the Haines Junction airport or take a flight direct from Whitehorse.
