Camping/RV Travel
Wrangell has public and private campgrounds to choose from, offering full services or remote wilderness experiences for tents and RV’s. The City Parks and Recreation Department manages two sites. City Park which is very close to downtown and offers overnight tent camping, is great for kayakers and bikers looking for short term accommodations. Shoemaker Bay Recreation area is about 4 miles from downtown but offers tent and RV camping with electricity, dump station, water and restrooms. The US Forest Service manages several remote camping areas on Wrangell Island in the Tongass National Forest.
With over 100 miles of forest roads on the island to explore for scenic overlooks, wildlife sightings, picnic areas, hiking trails and lakes, camping opportunities of all kinds abound for the tent or RV campers.
