Camping/RV Travel
Ketchikan offers private and public camping and RV facilities. The US Forest Service’s Ward Cove Recreation area provides three camp grounds, while Alaska State Parks operates one at Settler’s Cove State Park. A popular local pastime, your neighbors could very well be Ketchikan residents out for a getaway. Public facilities charge from $5 to $10 per night. Water and public lavatories are available at all locations. Hiking trails, proximity to lakes or beaches and summer interpretive programs are available as well. The Forest Service and Alaska State Parks recreational cabins are another option to consider for camping in the wild. Prices run from $25 to $45 per night. The USFS also maintains docks and floats for boats to utilize adjacent to many recreational areas and cabins. Most publicly managed recreation lands allow tent camping but check before you go for regulations. Private RV facilities are also available, space fills quickly so book early.
In town services include groceries; gas, diesel and propane, shower and laundry facilities, automotive parts and repair services and a dump station. Purchase and rental of camping and fishing equipment is also available through local outfitters.
